About

Red Red Bobbin is a Berea, KY fiber studio run by Shawnna Southerland, a lifelong Kentuckian whose love of needle and thread goes back to childhood, when her mother first introduced her to sewing. In 2013, she discovered coiled fabric bowl-making while searching for a way to repurpose accumulated fabric and clothing — and the technique stuck.

Shawnna creates coiled fabric bowls, coasters, and other functional pieces from reclaimed and designer fabrics, wrapping cord in layered rings that build into sturdy, colorful forms. Her work carries a quiet sustainability ethic: buying her pieces keeps textiles out of landfills. A juried member of both the Kentucky Arts Council's Kentucky Crafted Program and the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, she is also part of Etsy and Nest's Appalachian Creatives Collective.

Her work can be found on Etsy at redredbobbin and at regional craft markets throughout Kentucky.
