About

Maps Yarn is a Lexington, KY hand-dyeing studio founded by Conley Kinkead, who discovered small-batch yarn dyeing in her own backyard and built a studio practice around it. The name carries two meanings: a nod to her passion for mapping and cartography, and a reference to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song — a detail that quietly signals the sensibility behind the work.

Conley has been a knitter for over half her life, and that background shapes her approach to materials: she works exclusively with high-quality natural fibers she would want to use herself. Every skein is prepped, dyed, and processed by hand in her Lexington fiber studio, with three dogs as her standing audience.

Maps Yarn is available at mapsyarn.com and at craft markets in the Lexington area.
